Weekend Mantra (1)

Artwork by Danny Galieote

I've been staring at my computer screen for about 20 minutes now, struggling to formulate an idea for this post. I originally wanted to incorporate my mantra for the weekend with the posts that I featured that week. But then I saw these pictures. They were circulating through my Tumblr feed and each time I saw them I understood the meaning a little bit more. It's horrifying that we live in a world where some women actually need protection, like mace, pocket knives, and possibly brass knuckles to prevent an attack from an unwanted male (not always the case). The first emotion I registered was anger because us women actually have to take these precautions. Immediately after, I experienced pride. Pride because we women don't take any bullshit and are finally taking the stand against this horrid injustice placed upon us. Pride because we ARE strong enough to overcome this and fight for equality. So my mantra for this weekend is to take pride in my femininity and exude that confidence to anyone I encounter. I encourage you to do the same (not only for females, everyone take pride in themselves because ILY!)

Artist Revelation: Olivia Bee

All images from Olivia Bee's site

I apologize for my absence lately, but I've been quite ill. All I've been doing is lying in bed while watching movies or dragging myself to work. I did have a lovely holiday though with my family, and I hope you did as well!

As I said before, I would be featuring many people who inspire me on the blog, and Olivia Bee is yet another. She is an photographer from Portland, Oregon who started her work early on. At 14, she was already doing campaigns for major brands like Converse. I think I'm so drawn to her work because she is close to my age, and captures images that I can appreciate and that appeal to my beliefs at this stage in my life. I have probably stalked all her Q&A's on Youtube and I don't regret it one bit. I encourage you to browse her website and fall in love with her photography.

Hopefully I get better soon so I can actually put on real clothes and not sweatpants. Hope you all have a lovely holiday and spend it with the ones you love!

Colossal Girl Crush: Arabelle Sicardi

All images take from Fashion Pirate

Tuesdays are a bore, but what else is new? Actually there is something new. I'm going to start featuring bloggers who inspire me in most of my outfits or my beliefs. Some you may know, and some you may not.

My first blogger is the lovely Arabelle Sicardi from Fashion Pirate. We can all agree that her name is as ethereal as a clan of fairies whizzing through the forest {because that really does happen, shoo you non-believers}.  Her bio says, "I believe in girl power and pin-up girls. I am anything but your manic pixie dream [riot] grrrl, but I am a mermaid. We can hang if you wanna." Uhm can we really? Who doesn't want to hang out with fashionable mermaid? Her ever-changing hair color also proves her mermaid authenticity, along with her superb makeup skills.

What drew me the most to her blog was definitely the structure and layering that she incorporates within each outfit. I mean, that skirt in the first picture says it all. She finds the most unique pieces and mixes them to make them fit her style, which is way cool.

I follow her Tumblr as well, which involves copious amounts of fierce selfies and life lessons. If you aren't following her already on any social media, shame on you mermaid haters.

Advanced Style

As I was browsing the web a few days ago, I came across a website called Teenage Peanut. It is run by a woman who films and edits a multitude of videos, ranging from small documentaries to music videos. As I was watching some, I came across this one. It's a documentary being made about stylish older women in New York. This video is awe-inspiring for me. These ladies are all so unique and beautiful, and of course fabulously stylish. One of the messages I kept getting was that younger people today are too concerned with what society says looks good, and that's not how we should live. All of these women talk about how their style has evolved over time, and just kept getting more fun as time passed on. I love that they have this sense of freedom about them, where they can do whatever they want and are completely happy. One of the women said "Become yourself with a capital S." It just spoke to me, saying that life is definitely way too short, so why not be yourself without any restraints. I definitely recommend watching the trailer for this one, and they have a couple other clips from one on one interviews with some of the ladies. I don't think the documentary has been released yet, but it may be soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Current Musings

all images from tumblr

It's crazy how many styles constantly inspire me, especially the ones above. I honestly don't know a word to describe my style because I love a mix of everything. These are just some of the things currently serving as my muse.

Also, I aspire to be this cool as a grandma:

like srsly tho, those shoes and sunnies <3

Bangin'

All images from my Polyvore

Basically this is the product of boredom in class/throughout the day. I love creating outfits with a massive selection of pieces to choose from. Most of the ones I make focus solely on the outfit and shoes. I'll throw random accessories in from time to time, but I love focusing more on the outfit itself, same with my own personal style.

Alright another deep topic: Hollaback! I just saw this on Larissa's blog. (btw she's a kick-ass angel, ily her) Anyway, she goes way more into depth, but it's basically a non-profit organization to end street harassment/cat calls. When I first read about it, my mind immediately went into overdrive. How can I help, what do I do, sign me up! As I read more and more personal stories, it hit me that I have to do something, I can't just tell people about it. I've had an experience with street harassment myself, and truthfully it's disgusting and quite scary. With that, I've decided to talk about it with some girls at school or whoever is interested in my state and I want to start one in Louisiana. This organization is nothing but helpful, and why not do my part in helping someone? I encourage you to go read some of the stories and see for yourself. Just some food for thought!

Lastly, I need help. My hair is a touchy subject for me and it's quite hard for me to change it. I've been thinking about the really short insane-asylum type bangs for a while now. If you don't know what I mean, here you go:

I love how its choppy and all over the place, but still pretty rad. I have a long and slender face, so I'm just worried it will look awko taco, idk. I've always loved Madeline's bangs, which is where I originally got the idea (even tho hers aren't as choppy) :

So should I do insane-asylum, Madeline's sassy short ones, or none at all??? Any advice is helpful!

Meanwhile: Artsy Fartsy

All via Tumblr

Art is very inspiring if you absorb it. Sorry I don't know any of the artists/creators but I found all of these on Tumblr!

The last one is my favorite because the caption said the light bulb represented our thoughts and how over-thinking can ultimately kill you. Maybe not literally kill us, but of all the times I began to overthink things, it just complicated things ten times more.

Just being artsy fartsy, u kno

Happy FRIDAY~~~

r u mine?

Top: Purple Cow / Dress: Goodwill / Shoes: JC Simon / Purse: Michael Kors

I honestly don't know why I'm seriously obsessed with the milkmaid hairstyle. I love braiding my hair, and putting it up like this makes me feel sophisticated I guess? I'm not quite sure, but it's my favorite thing to do with my hair at the moment. I've started doing fishtail braids instead of regular braids and I like how it turned out.

Okay outfit time. First off, this shirt is one of my favorites. It reminds me of a Prada print, like this:

Or maybe even some old grandpa pajamas. Either way, I love it. This dress is weird in the sense that it bunches up and it's denim. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool dress, it's just weird in some angles. I still adore it though and I wear it a lot. This is also probably the first time I've worn this purse out in public. My friend Elise gave it to me a looooong time ago, and I just now rediscovered it you could say. I like that it's a smaller purse and the color is so BAM. I thought it went nicely with this outfit.

Stay cool doodz and try to be as rad as this outfit:

Shop: Electric Skinny

I love finding little Etsy or eBay stores online that cater to what my taste is at the moment. I found Electric Skinny a while back and still adore it. I'm always stalking to see the new stuff they put up, which is always mind blowing. Definitely check them out, these are just some of my favorites!

I have a disease, it's called the Monday's. Man, it blows. Also my current hairspiration:
